Slo-Tech - IBM in Globalfoundries sta odstopila od vseh medsebojnih tožb, ki jih v zadnjih letih ni manjkalo, in se poravnala. Podrobnosti o dogovoru javno niso znano, sta pa podjetji dejali, da bosta vsa nesoglasja o domnevnih kršitvah pogodb, razkrivanju poslovnih skrivnosti, kraji intelektualne lastnine in podobno rešili za zaprtimi vrati.
Globalfoundries je nastal leta 2009, ko se je od AMD-ja osamosvojil oddelek za proizvodnjo čipov. Hitro je postal ena največjih livarn na svetu, tožbe z IBM-om pa so se začele leta 2021. IBM je tedaj na newyorškem sodišču Globalfoundriesu očital zamude pri uvajanju nove tehnologije. Že leta 2014 sta podjetji podpisali desetletno pogodbo, po kateri bo Globalfoundries izdeloval čipe za IBM v litografijah od 14 nm do manjših, saj mu je IBM prodal svoje proizvodne kapacitete. Zaradi zamud in ukinitev nekaterih programov, zaradi česar IBM ni imel dostopa do 7-nm tehnologije, ko je je potreboval za svoje izdelke, je nato IBM zahteval plačilo 2,5 milijarde dolarjev odškodnine.
Globalfoundries pa je leta 2023 tožil tožbo zoper IBM, v kateri so napadali IBM-ov dogovor z Intelom in japonskim Rapidusom iz let 2021 in 2022. Trdil je, da je IBM s tem nezakonito razkril poslovne skrivnosti in da je tudi nezakonito vabil vodilne inženirje iz Globalfoundries v svoje vrste. Sedaj sta podjetji našli skupni jezik, tožbe pa so umaknjene. Globalfoundries in IBM sta vmes razvila 2-nm tehnologijo proizvodnje. Globalfoundries je po oceni ameriškega ministrstva za trgovino eno izmed štirih podjetij na svetu, ki je sposobno proizvajati čipe v najnovejših tehnologijah, in tudi edino, ki ima sedež v ZDA. Tudi zato je lani novembra dobilo poldrugo milijardo dolarjev subvencij v okviru CHIPS and Science Act.
