Slo-Tech - Intel je razkril več informacij o programskem popravku, ki je izšel ta teden in bo po predvidevanjih preprečil nadaljnje okvare procesorjev Raptor Lake 13. in 14. generacije. Intel je že pred tem potrdil, da je težava povišana napetost, ki jo procesor nápak zahteva. Posledice se sčasoma nabirajo, kar povzroča degradacijo procesorja, ki se kaže kot nestabilno delovanje in sesuvanje.
Posodobitev je nared v obliki popravka mikrokode, kar po meritvah v Intelu ne povzroča opaznega znižanja hitrosti delovanja v večini testov (3DMark: Timespy, WebXPRT 4, Cinebench R24, Blender 4.2.0). V nekaterih primerih je zmerna upočasnitev opazna (ebXPRT Online Homework; PugetBench GPU Effects Score), podobno velja tudi za igre (Hitman 3: Dartmoor). Ključno vprašanje pa je, kako priti do popravka.
Lastniki Asusovih in MSI-jevih plošč lahko namestijo novo verzijo BIOS-a. Podobno velja tudi za vse ostale sisteme, pri čemer pa se izvedba razlikuje. Že sestavljeni računalniki, torej OEM-sistemi, imajo na voljo svoja orodja. To so na primer Lenovo Vantage, Dell SupportAssist, HP Support Assistant, MyASUS. Druga možnost je seveda neposredna posodobitev BIOS-a, ki doseže enako.
Četudi bo Intel izdal popravke, pa se zgodba s tem ne končuje. Še vedno pričakujemo orodje, ki bo uporabniku povedalo, ali je njegov procesor ogrožen glede na model. Še uporabnejši pa bi bil test, ki bi preveril, do kolikšne mere je procesor že degradiran, da bi ga lahko preventivno zamenjali - pod garancijo. Ker Intel ne bo nudil niti vpoklica, temveč le dvoletno podaljšanje garancije, za kar pa potrebujemo dokazljivo pomanjkljivo delovanje, je to malo verjetno.
Ključna beseda za vse posodobitve pa je 0x129. Če je v opisu sprememb omenjena mikrokoda 0x129, gre za popravek Raptor Lake. Oznaka 0x125 pa opisuje popravek eTVB, ki je tudi relevanten, a je manj ključen za stabilnost.

Ta popravek je bolj bogi, še vedno so špice ki degradirajo Intel samo da trajajo veliko manj časa. Verjetno bo zdržal pri normalni uporabi do konca garancije na kej dost več pa ne bi upal.
Kupovat Intel kljub temu popravku je neracionalno.

Small side note here. In physics Power is always produced by multiplying voltage times current or amps (ampere as the french say). So, we have V * A = W(atts).
That means, there higher the voltage for a current is, the more watts you have to cool.
Before I RMA'd my 13700K, I was watching Buildziod's voltage analyses video and I thought to myself, what if I fiddle with the resistance and voltage directly in my VR-settings? So I did.
I set a upper voltage limit to the VR (voltage regulator, which you can fiddle with since Z690) to 1.380V, which means, my 13700K got an upper voltage limit to 1.380V to run at stock speed.
I also lowered the resistance settings in the VR-settings from 40 / 90 AC to DC loadline to 10 / 10 AC to DC loadline. And I set the current limit to Intel's specification to 307 Amps.
With benchmate I got my 13700K from 29600-ish point in Cinebench23 multicore point to 30200-ish points at stock and 30962 point with a +300MHz overclock and +200MHz on the P-cores and E-cores, but I had to adjust the voltage limit up to 1.450V.
However, within Intel's spcification and my self-emposed voltage limit, Cinebench23 did'nt even get remotely close to the power limit of 253 Watts. Highest measured was 233 Watts and the highest core temp was at 82°C. That is a world away from the previous 104°C.

I'm running my 13700K paired with a Z790 MSI Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard and a DeepCool AK620 air cooler, at stock ratios, 110/110 AC DC load lines, ICCMax at 307A, IA CEP=enabled, and a global negative voltage offset of -150mV. This applies to both the CPU core and Cache, lowering their VIDs. PL2 is capped at 188W, max temp in CB R23 reaches 85C with 23C ambient, R23 score is 30200 pts, the highest I've seen is 30313. VCore during this multi-core 188W R23 load is around 1.18V. If I set PL2 to 253W, the max draw is 215W and the score is around 31K. Microcode is 0x123, currently running the latest stable version BIOS for my MB.
Max VCore spike I've ever registered (HWInfo is running 24/7) is 1.338V, during light low-core usage.
People online tend to mostly undervolt through lowering the AC load line, but my personal experience is that I get the best results with keeping AC=DC=110 (those are MSI's "Intel Default" settings), and then applying a negative offset. No instablity at all, I've successfully passed all kinds of tests such as y-cruncher, OCCT, Prime95, Cinebench R23 and 2024, TimeSpy Extreme, Intel's Diagnostic Tool, and of course everything is stable during regular usage and gaming. I can't really be more happy with my CPU and my configuration, hope it stays that way in the long run.

Nekje okoli 2% perf. razlike z novim BIOS. V glavnem v margin of error pri testiranju.
Raptor Lake je prešel od dizajna do trgovinskih polic v 11 mesecih. Intel je rabil eno leto, da so napako ugotovili, ker nikoli niso opravili nobene dolgoročne validacije zaradi panike glede Zen 4. Kupci so bili njihovo validacijsko testiranje.
Torej, če ful po kmečko razmišljam... Procesorji bi začeli imeti probleme v roku do treh let (čas standard garancije). Intel zaradi te degradacije in negativnega odziva javnosti podaljša garancijo za 2 leti, torej na 5 let. Intel izda microcode update 0x129 kateri malenkost izboljša oz. skrajša voltage spikes in s tem recimo podaljša življensko dobo procesorja za 2 leti (skupaj na 5 let). Torej hardware problem glede degradacije še vedno obstaja in se po petih letih (ko ti poteče podaljšana garancija) lahko obrišeš pod nosom?
In glede BIOS posodobitve kot sem že neštetokrat omenil, a bodo vsi uporabniki posodobili ali jih je večina preproste mentalitete:" ga imam v PC že eno leto, dela brez problema in to je to." Taki, ki ne spremljajo PC novic in so kupili najdražji procesor zato, ker imajo keša več kot pameti? Samo zato, da kolegu rečejo "jaz imam i9 brt"
Npr. pri avtih imaš ob morebitni serijski napaki prve par let servis pri pooblaščenem serviserju, kjer so (oz. bi morali biti) s to napako seznanjeni in ti jo odpravijo, pa če tudi ti nimaš pojma o avtih in sploh nisi o tej napaki vedel.
A pri proc, ko se pojavi pri tvoji komponenti serijska težava te kdo opozori, da je treba kej posodobit/zamenjat? Ima kdo Gigabyte napajalnik GP-P750GM/P850GM, ki ga še vedno uporablja in ne ve, da so imeli serijsko napako? Bo zanimivo, ko se ti procesorji pojavijo čez par let na second hand trgu. Vprašaš prodajalca katero BIOS verzijo je imel, in ti odgovori "kaj je to?". Ali pa ti odgovori "na najnovejši verziji" in hkrati nima pojma katera verzija točno je to. Thank you, next.

Ja, Tekken 8, v štartu: ''Out of video memory error'' - video memory pa na 6/16GB. Random crashi v Cyberpunku. Poslal screenshot na support, Intel noče dati RMA.
Poslali so mi settinge za probat, ki nerfajo CPU za 36%!!! To so TVB / eTVB = enable, CEP = Enable, TVB voltage = Enable
Potem pa še en mail da moram uporabljati ''Intel default settings'' in da naj kontaktiram proizvajalca matične za več podrobnosti.
