There is no big difference between the two connectors. You can interchange them all you want with no major problems. The only big difference is within Windows. If you open up the Master Volume panel, by double clicking the speaker in the system tray, than you will notice many different sliders that are labled. These labels are directly concerned with the input/output ports that are labled the same. So if you have your CD-ROM connected to the CD-In and you are playing a CD, then changing the volume slider marked CD in the Master Volume panel will change the volume as you are listning to the CD. If however, the CD-ROM is connected to the Aux-In, than you will need to change the Line In slider to change the volume. The easiest thing to do is to just connect the CD-ROM to the CD-In connector. If you happen to get something else that has a connector for the sound card, such as a voice modem or a CD-RW, than you can connect it to the Aux-In.
All the motherboards that I have seen, that have on-board sound, do not have inputs for the digital connectors. This is not a problem however as you only need to connect one of the two audio outs from the CD-ROM to the sound card inputs. I don't even think it will work if both of them are connected. If you do want the benefits of using the digital out on the CD-ROM, although there aren't many benifits for a CD-ROM, than you would need to get a sound card that has a digital input. One such card is the Sound Blaster Audigy.
pa spet vemo neki vec... ;)
