This has been tested only with the Adaptec 2906. However, you may be able to adjust the driver to support other 78XX based devices.

Here is how you may get other Adaptec devices to work with this driver since I found that there is a driver for the Adaptec 7870 chip included in Vista 64, which is done through emulation. The driver name is "djsvs.sys"

1. Search Vista for both "djsvs.ini" and djsvs.sys" and copy them to a folder called "Adaptec 2906"

2. Under Device Manager, Look at the SCSI Controller that is missing the drivers. Right click on it and go to Properties, then click on the "Details" tab and finally selected the "Hardware ID" property.

From there, find the appropriate ID for your Adaptec card (in my case):

PCI\VEN_9004&DEV_5078&SUBSYS_78509004

3. Open the file "djsvs.ini" with notepad.exe and locate the entry:
[ADAPTEC.NTamd64]
%PCI\VEN_9004&DEV_7078&SUBSYS_70781414.DeviceDesc% = aic78xx_Inst, PCI\VEN_9004&DEV_7078&SUBSYS_70781414

Copy and paste the line and then change the Device ID for your device as shown below.

Do the same at the end of the file:

Save the file and close

4. Now from the Device Manager, right click on the SCSI controller that is missing the drivers and hit update driver. Select the lower option to locate the driver manually. Browse to the folder "Adaptec 2906" or whicever name you chose and select the driver from there. You will get a screen telling you that Windows cannot verify the publisher of the driver. Just keep the appropriate button to continue and install.

5. Reboot your computer to make sure it will boot up correctly. If it fails to boot and you have driver issues, you will need to select the option to boot "Last Known Good configuration".
