Vojaško letalo s pilotom postaja predraga zadeva tudi za velike, da bi ga kar tako poslal v prvo bojno linijo blizu dogajanja. Do sedaj so to reševali z raketami dolgega dosega nekaj do 100 km, ampak so tudi drage, da bi jih kar tako uporabil proti manjšim ciljem v podporo pehoti.
Namenski dron, specializiran za določeno nalogo je lahko precej manjši (ni človeka, ni pilotske kabine), ima eno vrsto oborožitve (opravi nalogo in se vrne), je manj pogrešljiv, cenejši, predvsem pa ni pilota.
Vprašanje je, kako/koliko je EU sposobna zagotavljat ustrezno (neodvisno od USA) in varno komunikacijo med centrom vodenja in droni. In koliko je sposobna sodelovanja tako v financah kot pri človeških virih pri razvoju ter kasnejši proizvodnji.
Namenski dron, specializiran za določeno nalogo je lahko precej manjši (ni človeka, ni pilotske kabine), ima eno vrsto oborožitve (opravi nalogo in se vrne), je manj pogrešljiv, cenejši, predvsem pa ni pilota.
Vprašanje je, kako/koliko je EU sposobna zagotavljat ustrezno (neodvisno od USA) in varno komunikacijo med centrom vodenja in droni. In koliko je sposobna sodelovanja tako v financah kot pri človeških virih pri razvoju ter kasnejši proizvodnji.

Povej to indijcem, ki Su-27/30 nikakor ne morejo pripraviti k delu.

Kolikor vem, je tu več problemov. Osnovni je, da Rusi ne naredijo technology transferja, kot so to želeli Indijci. Drugič, mislim, da tudi motorji na Su 27/30/35 še niso taki, kot so obljubili Indijcem. Kot tretjič, avionika še ni taka, kot so si to predstavljai Indijci. Indijci so šli tudi v Su 57 program, pa so tudi tam odstopili, ker "stealth" bi tak, kot so si predstavljali (ne vem, kaj so Rusi obljubili).
Tako, kot rezime se bere, kot da je z Indijci kaj narobe. Je pa stvar taka, da so MIG-21 Indijci perfektirali do daske, edini "problem" je vseeno, da gre za staro robo.
Kaj pa vem. Zahtevne stranke.
Pakistanci so naredili bolj praktičen deal. Razvili so (s Kitajci) nek relativno poceni klon F-16:

Glede letalonosilk: mogoče nimajo razvitega parnega katapulta, da o elektromagnetnem sploh ne govorimo.

RE včerajšnja nesreča v Rusiji, po kateri je bila zaznana povečana radiacija - do 10. septembra so zaprli 30*8 km pas morja ob testnem poligonu, zelo verjetno gre za malfunkcijo jedrsko gnanega projektila.
Malo čudno, ker je v okolici precej naseljenih področij (Severodvinsk in Arhangelsk sta 30 in 65 km stran), ampak glede na satelitske posnetke so testiranja prestavili z Nove Zemlje.
Povsem možno, da je eksplodirala kemično gnana raketa - jedrski projektili delujejo po principu ramjeta in rabijo začetno hitrost.

Nenoksa is an interesting site -- it is a Russian missile test site along the Arctic Coast. @planetlabs has an image taken on August 8 at 11:29 local time. (We still aren't sure exactly when the explosion occurred.)
Lenta reports that two sources claimed the explosion "may be" related to the testing of the Zircon.
The Russian Defense Ministry also said it was a liquid propellant engine (жидкостной реактивной двигательной) missile, which would fit the Zircon.
But a failed Zircon test shouldn't release radiation.
There are images and videos of a medical evacuation helicopter and personnel in bunny suits (hazmat suits).
Another possibility is that it was a failed test of Russia's nuclear-powered cruise missile (9M730 Burevestnik/ SSC-X-9 Skyfall).
Last year, @annemp13 and I noticed that Russia was packing up the Pankovo test site, on Novaya Zemlya, used for past tests.
After closing up the Pankovo site, Russia seems to have constructed a copy of the site at Nenoksa, with the same rail-based shelter.
(There is also a similar facility at Kapustin Yar, which may be for tests without the nuclear-power unit.)
UPDATE: There are reports that the explosion occurred aboard a ship. It’s looks like the Serebryanka. The ship’s name might ring a bell.
The Serebryanka was one of the ships we believe was involved in Russia’s effort to recover a nuclear-powered cruise missile that crashed at sea.
Our friend @nktpnd quoting @Shea_Cotton and @DuitsyWasHere on the Serebryanka's probable role in recovering a nuclear-powered cruise missile off Novaya Zemlya last summer.
On balance, this would tend to authenticate the photos and videos of first responders in hazmat suits.
@fab_hinz found the same ambulance (same license plate) in a news report about Arkhangelsk first responders.
And @DuitsyWasHere finds that the helicopter in the video is owned by a company in Arkhangelsk.

On Twitter, I’ve been a bit of a naysayer. I’m not disagreeing that Russia is testing what they believe will become their Burevestnik. I’m saying I think they’ll never have an operating system.
I think that what has happened is that someone sold a program to Putin. The visuals are cool, and the idea of a cruise missile that can just keep cruising obviously appealed to him. “Nuclear-powered” sounds good. The promoter of the program may even believe in it.
Programs have been sold this way in the United States. We are still working on the missile defense that Edward Teller bamboozled Ronald Reagan into. I recall a Labor Day weekend in which the proof test for laser isotope separation was to be completed. It wasn’t. People get overenthusiastic about their ideas or just are selling something they think would be fun to work on or to make their status higher.
But there are basic and fundamental engineering considerations that suggest that a nuclear-powered cruise missile with a very small power source, will be very difficult or impossible to build.

Ena izmed prednosti rakete na jedrski pogon je, da jo je precej lažje narediti kot npr. mini drone podmornico z normalnimi vodenimi raketami. Raketa na jedrski pogon namreč ni nek zadnji krik tehnike. Prva testiranja gredo v leto 1946:

Prišli so do prototipa, nato so ugotovili, da so medkontinentalne rakete enostavnejše kot so si predstavljali in rakete z neomejenim dosegom niso bile več potrebne.
Prednost take rakete je sicer v tem, da jo izstreliš, nato poljubno dolgo kroži po svetu in napade skozi šibko točko obrambe. Ker se jo da zaznati in sestreliti tudi med letom tu ni mišljeno, da bi frčala okoli pet tednov, ampak vseeno jo lahko izstreliš iz recimo Irkutska globoko v Sibiriji, leti na jug, prečka južni tečaj, sledi Andom, nato centralni Ameriki in prečka mejo nekje pri Arizoni in napade karkoli že.
Ni toliko koliko škode naredi kot to, da moraš za učinkovito obrambo pred takim sistemom nameniti toliko sredstev, da naredi ogromno škode ostalim vojaškim kapacitetam.
