Kako z ukazom ping dobiti # of hops?

Tole je preprosto z traceroute, z ping pa nimam pojma kako bi to izvedel? P.s., gre za Linux.
S pomočjo ukaza ping ugotovite:
a) Koliko skokov je potrebno, da dosežemo gostitelja www.google.com.

Zakaj pa bi sploh ping uporabljal v ta namen, če smem vprašat?
Kot bi lopato uporabljal za zabijanje žebljev. Sicer gre, ampak obstajajo boljša orodja (ki jih že tudi sam omenjaš).
