VIA KT400A to Be Single-Channel. No Sensation to Come

Not so long ago the respected AnandTech site shared some information about the last Socket A chipset from VIA, VIA KT400A, claiming that it would have 2 DDR SDRAM channels. Unfortunately, this information appeared wrong, and now we have every right to state that VIA KT400A will never be similar to NVIDIA nForce2 SPP.

The newest info on VIA’s plans we have at hand here dated as December 2002 finally makes everything about KT400A absolutely clear. The document states that KT400A will be none other but just a new revision of the good old KT400 and will use single-channel memory subsystem.

Among VIA KT400A features they list the support of Athlon XP and Duron processors with 200, 266 and 333MHz bus and single-channel DDR266/DDR333/DDR400 SDRAM. The memory controller of KT400A will have some changes, however, they will deal only with the implementation of official DDR400 SDRAM support and a slight performance improvement. The chipset will also support ECC.

Moreover, VIA KT400A, just like its predecessor, will support AGP 8x and V-Link 8x buses, which indicates that the South Bridge will be represented by the VIA VT8235 chip.

The mass production of the new KT400A solution hasn’t been scheduled yet, however the sampling is expected to take place in Q1 2003 already.

Dual DDR nima veze dokler ne povečajo prepustnosti samega procesorja - samo za XP 2700+ je dovolj KT333 čipset, za počasnejše pa KT266A ali podobni.

A ne bi bla fora, če bi AMD podprl RAMBUS?
