MSDN-AA vs. DreamSpark

There are a number of ways that DreamSpark and MSDN Academic Alliance differ from each other: the software available, benefits to users, the licensing agreements, and more.

DreamSpark offers around 18 products to students to enable them to get familiar with the technology they'll be using once they graduate. They can easily get access to this software by verifying their student status with a school issued email address that ends in .edu.

MSDNAA on the other hand is an agreement with a specific department in the school that sets up an online store where students can go to download products and use them. The list of products is much more extensive in MSDN AA, though student access to those products is managed through a school program administrator. This agreement has to be setup in advance between Microsoft and the school.
