How can I fix my BIOS chip after a bad upgrade?
Take the following steps to fix the bad BIOS:

You need another motherboard. Although ideally it should be another KT7, this approach apparently works even using a completely different make - just make sure you don't try to boot from the re-flashed BIOS chip.
Remove the BIOS chip from the good motherboard and get some scotch tape. Stick the tape in a loop around the chip like a lasso so that you can easily remove the chip once the machine is booted. One user advises that you make the loop so that the glue faces outwards (ie. doesn't touch the chip) as if you have to peel sticky tape off the chip, the act of pulling the adhesive off the chip can generate considerable amounts of static electricity. If the lasso doesn't actually stick to the chip you can simply cut it to remove it.
Put the good BIOS back into the slot but do not push it in the slot so hard that you can not remove it by pulling the tape.
Remove the bad BIOS and lasso the tape around it too.
Boot up the good system with a startup disk and BIOS flash utility program.
Once you have the A: prompt, remove the good BIOS and put in the bad BIOS firmly to ensure that it will not get any errors. (Important: Make sure the dot on the corner of the chip is on the same side as the "U" on the Chip
holder on the Motherboard or you will fry the chip)
Run the Flash program and flash the chip
Once that is done, reboot the computer to see if everything works

Note that there is a risk that you may irreparably damage your motherboard by using this procedure, and so alternatively you can send your chip to a company that will reflash or replace it - such as www.flashbios.org (for about Ł5) or www.badflash.com. A BIOS flashing service is offered in Germany by www.DerPCDoktor.de in Italy by www.elma.it and in France by electro.proxone.fr. To prevent these problems in the future you may wish to consider using a BIOS Savior.
