A couple of observations.
The only immediate effect is that Syria is not allowed to vote or hold any positions at @OPCW. This is a slap on the wrist given how blatant and brazen Syria's violations of the #CWC have been. However, the decision is a milestone in accountability.
Members of the @OPCW can and should do more. If Syria remains in non-compliance with the #CWC by the next Conf of States Parties, the Conf should refer the case to UNSC. Yes, I know Russia will use its veto to protect Syria--but (at least) 3 good reasons to do so.
1. Will provide very public platform for evidence of Syrian non-compliance, including use of CW. @OPCW has not been a good forum for that so far.
2. Force Russia to pay a heavy diplomatic price for supporting its CW-using, treaty-breaking ally. That Russia and Syria were only able to muster 13 other No votes means they are isolated.
3. Members of @OPCW need to use every avenue under the #CWC to bring Syria back into compliance--cannot leave UNSC referral unused just because of possible Russian veto.
4. The alternative is allowing Syria to remain member of #CWC in perpetual non-compliance and suffer no meaningful consequences--not good for the CW nonproliferation regime and bad precedent for future non-compliance cases.

So @DiEM_25 — the ironically named "Democracy in Europe Movement" founded by @yanisvaroufakis — is not hosting just one, or two, but three genocide-deniers, including one employee of the Russian disinformation service. All three are apologists for Assad, Xi, and Putin.
Last year @yanisvaroufakis's sister project @ProgIntl invited Syria's dissident intellectual @YassinHSaleh to speak at their conference before rescinding to appease the tankies in its ranks. These movements are neither progressive nor democratic.

Effectively a lot of it is performative outrage which confuses clicks with real world impact. Getting invited to a UN side meeting to deny war crimes on behalf of Russia might make you feel important, but in terms of serious accountability work it’s not even a blip.

How these groups radicalise overtime; unless you're 100% loyal to their cause and those who represent it in the eyes of the group they turn on you viciously.
Another good example of this behaviour is when pro-Assad account published pro-Assad White Helmet Hater Vanessa Beeley's private DMs with him because she admitted she thought Assad had tortured people, but wouldn't say it publicly.
It wasn't that she wasn't saying it publicly, and he was trying to expose that, it's that she dared believe it in the first place. Fortunately for her Russia Today needed a face for their White Helmets bashing.
This isn't something unique to Syria or any other situation, you see the same pattern of behaviour repeated in different online communities, from flat Earthers to chemical weapon denialists, just one of the many wonders the internet has brought to our societies.

Pobite, mučene in zaprte s strani assadovega obveščevalnega aparata pa kar zanemarimo?
Kljub pobitim, mučenim in zaprtim s strani Assadovega režima je velika večina prebivalcev Sirije dobro živela, preden so ZDA, UK, Izrael, Savdova Arabija & Co. oborožili in s ketne spustili islamistično golazen v Siriji, za povrh pa so Siriji nabili še nečloveške sankcije.
Vse to, kar pripenjate Assadu, počne Izrael nekaj 100km stran, poleg tega pa se gre še apartheida in popolnoma odkritega etničnega čiščenja.

Pobite, mučene in zaprte s strani assadovega obveščevalnega aparata pa kar zanemarimo?
Glede na to, da je "zdravilo" tradicionalno precej slabše od bolezni, je to edina smiselna pot, da. Ozirima bi vsaj morala biti, ker se verjetno strinjamo, da sankcije, okupacija ter investicije v zmerne glavorezce sircem pač ne pomagajo.

Še vedno velja; denar je sveta vladar in kdor ga ima, ima tudi moč, ki je noče prepustiti, zato se pa "dogajajo demmokratizacije" držav. Podobno je, ko si želijo "lokalni šerifi" podrediti ljudi v neki državi. Ampak še vedno imajo podporo od zunaj, če ne, je mala verjetnost da uspejo.
In še to, izobražen narod zna furat demokracijo, je manj odstopanj od idealnega modela, zna in zmore krotit korupcijo. Neizobražen pa . . . , samo da nekaj da v usta, ima streho nad glavo, fajn avto in telefon, . . . . potem se pa konča (ni nujno, da so prioritete takšne in v takšnem vrstnem redu).

In October or November 2011, Syrian Military Intelligence arrested two brothers and their acquaintance and detained them in the 261 Division prison in Homs. The morning after the arrest, one of the brothers suffered an epileptic seizure. The accused, who was called in, "punched the sick man in the face, gave him blows with a plastic hose & kicked him in the head. Few days later, Alaa M. administered a tablet to the patient who had been weakened by the epileptic seizure. He died shortly after w/o the cause of death being clearly established.

Kaj bom imel od iskanja, razen kupa nepomembnih detajlov?
Če ti dam analogijo - v časopisih imaš redno v kroniki, kako se slovenci zaletavamo po cestah ter sem pa tja tepemo/koljemo. Tvoj zaključek je, da so slovenci norci, saj vsak dan beremo o kakšni nesreči, medtem ko o tujih ni ne duha ne sluha.
