WHO poroča o katastrofalnih razmerah v Gazi.
Bo cel svet mirno spremljal holokavst v živo?

Lethal combination of hunger and disease to lead to more deaths in #Gaza
Hunger is ravaging Gaza, and this is expected to increase illness across the Strip, most acutely among children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and older people.
In new estimates released today, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) global partnership, which includes WHO, said Gaza is facing "catastrophic levels of food insecurity," with the risk of famine "increasing each day."
An unprecedented 93% of the population in Gaza is facing crisis levels of hunger, with insufficient food and high levels of malnutrition. At least 1 in 4 households is facing "catastrophic conditions": experiencing an extreme lack of food and starvation and having resorted to selling off their possessions and other extreme measures to afford a simple meal. Starvation, destitution and death are evident.
On recent missions to north Gaza, WHO staff say that every single person they spoke to in Gaza is hungry. Wherever they went, including hospitals and emergency wards, people asked them for food. "We move around Gaza delivering medical supplies, and people rush to our trucks hoping it's food," they said, calling it "an indicator of the desperation."
Infectious diseases are thriving
Gaza is already experiencing soaring rates of infectious diseases. Over 100 000 cases of diarrhoea have been reported since mid-October. Half of these are among young children under the age of 5 years, case numbers that are 25 times what were reported before the conflict.
Over 150 000 cases of upper respiratory infection and numerous cases of meningitis, skin rashes, scabies, lice and chickenpox have been reported. Hepatitis is also suspected, as many people present with the telltale signs of jaundice.
While a healthy body can more easily fight off these diseases, a wasted and weakened body will struggle. Hunger weakens the body's defences and opens the door to disease.
Malnutrition increases the risk of children dying from illnesses like diarrhoea, pneumonia and measles, especially in a setting where they lack access to life-saving health services.
Even if the child survives, wasting can have life-long impacts as it stunts growth and impairs cognitive development.
Breastfeeding mothers are also at high risk of malnutrition. From 0-6 months of age, a mother's milk is the best and safest food a baby can get. This protects the child from nutritional deficiencies and catching deadly diseases such as diarrhoea, especially when access to safe drinking water is extremely limited.
Mental health issues, on the rise across the population in Gaza, including among women, could further impact breastfeeding rates.
Lack of sanitation and hygiene, and a collapsing health system, add to the toxic mix
Over 1.9 million people have been displaced from their homes, of whom over 1.4 million are staying in overcrowded shelters. These conditions are ripe for a continued rise in infectious diseases. In Gaza today, on average, there is only one shower for every 4500 people and one toilet for every 220. Clean water remains scarce, and there are rising levels of outdoor defecation. These conditions make the spread of infectious diseases inevitable.
Tragically, access to health services across Gaza has plummeted as the war continues to degrade the health system. With the health system on its knees, those facing the deadly combination of hunger and disease are left with few options.
The people of Gaza, who have already suffered enough, now face death from starvation and diseases that could be easily treated with a functioning health system. This must stop. Food and other aid must flow in far greater amounts. WHO reiterates its call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.

Today was an important day. A suicide drone launched from Iran struck the Israeli-linked tanker MV Chem Pluto 350 km off the Indian coast. The vessel is carrying crude oil from Saudi Arabia to India. 20 Indian sailors are on board. Iran is attacking Saudi and Indian interests.

Judovsko državo Izrael in Palestino
- Vzpostavitev ene, skupne države, kjer imajo vsi državljani (popolnoma) enake pravice
- Zavzetje in nadzor nad celotnim območjem s strani Izraela in izvajanje oz. nadaljevanje apardheida nad palestinci

The Strait of Hormuz is the world's most important oil chokepoint because large volumes of oil flow through the strait. In 2022, its oil flow averaged 21 million barrels per day (b/d), or the equivalent of about 21% of global petroleum liquids consumption.

It followed harrowing pictures of desperate Afghans clinging to a US Air Force C17 as it spirited the lucky few to a faraway airbase. Those scenes will be forever with us, along with the helicopter leaving the American embassy in Saigon on April 30, 1975.
These were terrible events: moments of great humiliation and defeat for a great nation which has been the bastion of liberalism and freedom throughout modern history.

In the interviews, key figures in the war said Washington tolerated the worst offenders — warlords, drug traffickers, defense contractors — because they were allies of the United States.
But they said the U.S. government failed to confront a more distressing reality — that it was responsible for fueling the corruption, by doling out vast sums of money with limited foresight or regard for the consequences.
Zelo uspešni so bili tudi v metriki proizvodnje heroina v Afganistanu.

Talibani so pred odhodom Američanov že imeli kontrolo velike dele Afganistana.
Tukaj imaš lepo animacijo, kako so Talibani takoj zasedli cel Afganistan.

President Biden has supported Israel's campaign to "destroy Hamas" in Gaza, despite international concern that the Israeli response, which has killed more than 20,000 Palestinians, could be disproportionate.
However, Mr Biden did warn Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that his country is losing the support of the international community.
He said last week that Israel “has the European Union, it has Europe, it has most of the world supporting them, but they’re starting to lose that support by indiscriminate bombing that takes place”.
Recent polling has now shown that Mr Biden's hopes of being reelected may have been impacted by his stance on the conflict in the Middle East.
A recent poll from The New York Times and Siena College found that only one-third of registered voters approve of President Biden’s handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The survey also showed that 37 percent of registered voters approve of Mr Biden as a president overall.
Of voters younger than 30, a key demographic for the Democrats, Mr Biden's approval rating is just 26 percent overall 20 percent on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Overall, 19 percent of registered voters say both that they disapprove of Biden on the conflict and that it’s because he’s too supportive of Israel, rising to 45 percent among voters younger than 30.

Po kakšni metriki so ZDA izgubile v afganistanu, iraku?
Po vojaški metriki, Talibani so jih nagnali ven, niti organizirano se niso uspeli umakniti. Si pozabil na prizore iz Afganistana, ko so obupani afganistanski kooperanti viseli iz letal ko so jih ZDA prepustile na milost Talibanom?

The simple facts are that opium production was high under the US influenced government of Afghanistan of the 1970s, decreased 10-fold by 2001 under the Taliban, and then increased 30-fold and more under the US to the same level as in the 1970s.2

Putin to zelo lepo razloži:

The top US general conceded in a stark admission on Wednesday that the United States "lost" the 20-year war in Afghanistan.
"It is clear, it is obvious to all of us, that the war in Afghanistan did not end on the terms we wanted, with the Taliban in power in Kabul," General Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the House Armed Services Committee.
"The war was a strategic failure," Milley told a committee hearing about the US troop pullout from Afghanistan and the chaotic evacuation from the capital Kabul.

V bistvu me zanima koliko bojnih letal so sklatili Talibanci če naj bi premagali Američane?

ZDA z podporo Izraelu namreč hitro izgubljajo mednarodno kredibilnost.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/20...
The claims were remarkably specific — that five hospital buildings were directly involved in Hamas activities; that the buildings sat atop underground tunnels that were used by militants to direct rocket attacks and command fighters; and that the tunnels could be accessed from inside hospital wards. The assertions were backed by “concrete evidence,” Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said as he laid out the case in an Oct. 27 briefing.
But the evidence presented by the Israeli government falls short of showing that Hamas had been using the hospital as a command and control center, according to a Washington Post analysis of open-source visuals, satellite imagery and all of the publicly released IDF materials. That raises critical questions, legal and humanitarian experts say, about whether the civilian harm caused by Israel’s military operations against the hospital — encircling, besieging and ultimately raiding the facility and the tunnel beneath it — were proportionate to the assessed threat.
The Post’s analysis shows:
The rooms connected to the tunnel network discovered by IDF troops showed no immediate evidence of military use by Hamas.
None of the five hospital buildings identified by Hagari appeared to be connected to the tunnel network.
There is no evidence that the tunnels could be accessed from inside hospital wards.
The targeting by a U.S. ally of a compound housing hundreds of sick and dying patients and thousands of displaced people has no precedent in recent decades. The march on al-Shifa caused the hospital’s operations to collapse. As Israeli troops closed in and fighting intensified, fuel ran out, supplies could not enter, and ambulances were unable to collect casualties from the streets.
Before troops entered the complex, doctors dug a mass grave for as many as 180 people, the United Nations said, citing hospital staff. The morgue had long since ceased to function. Several days later, when WHO medics arrived to evacuate those still inside, they said the place of healing had become a “death zone.” At least 40 patients — including four premature babies — died in the days leading up to the raid and its aftermath, the United Nations said.
In the weeks since, other hospitals in Gaza have come under attack in ways that mirror what happened at al-Shifa — making the assault not just a watershed moment in the conflict, but a vital case study in Israel’s adherence to the laws of war.
Medical facilities are afforded special protection — even in times of war — losing their status only “while they are being used outside their medical function to commit acts harmful to the enemy,” said Adil Haque, a law professor at Rutgers University.

https://www.ft.com/content/edebf6ef-155...
But then Biden’s tone changed. He went on to call for the Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu to shift course, remarks he had previously been loath to deliver publicly.
“He’s a good friend, but I think he has to change,” Biden said of Netanyahu, with thinly disguised frustration. The Israeli government was the “most conservative in Israel’s history” and did not want “a two-state solution” or to have “anything to do with the Palestinians”.
Finally, Biden warned Israel that it was starting to lose the support of the world because of its “indiscriminate” bombing of civilians in Gaza. According to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, more than 20,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its military operation in response to Hamas’s surprise attack, which killed 1,200.
Biden’s reproach — notably delivered outside of an official White House event — did not by any means signal a fundamental rupture with Israel was looming. But it did point to the mounting frustration in Washington with Israel’s conduct as its offensive rages on and the death toll of Palestinian civilians keeps mounting. The growing disquiet suggests trouble for Biden, too, on both domestic and international fronts.
https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/202...
According to an Israeli source briefed on the details of the conversation, Austin made it clear that the current phase of the war, in which large IDF forces operate deep inside Gaza, causing extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, will have to stop in early 2024. "Austin didn't set an exact date, but the message was very clear," the source told Haaretz.
It is not only the Biden administration that has conveyed such messages to Israel in recent days. The governments of Britain and Germany, two of the most pro-Israel countries in the West, called earlier this week for a "stable cease-fire." France had earlier also called for a cease-fire, drawing criticism from Israel, however Jerusalem refrained from issuing an official response to the joint call by the British and Germans. The Biden administration remains almost alone in its declared opposition to a cease-fire, as reflected in the UN Security Council vote a week and a half ago.
