Arson is lethal force & may justify use of lethal force to stop it because it can kill. Stealing, on the other hand, is NOT lethal force & does NOT justify lethal force to stop it. What stops looting is deterrence, tear gas, arrest, & commitment to seeing justice being done.
We fully support using the National Guard to keep the peace if necessary, but it MUST be done in a way that respects the rights of ALL Americans, and that includes the right to life of ALL Americans, even the idiots who are looting. You cannot just shoot them. That is unlawful. National Guardsman would be DUTY BOUND to refuse those orders to shoot people for stealing. Arson, yes, since it's deadly. Stealing? No.
President Trump, you have a good chance to do the right thing here, to be sure justice is done. Don't be on the wrong side of history. It was wrong to shoot looters in New Orleans during Katrina, and men went to jail for doing it. There were police who went to jail for shooting looters during Hurricane Katrina. Riots and looting don't suspend the Constitution any more than bad weather suspended it during Katrina. Nor does a virus. NOTHING suspends the Constitution. Period.
