Mediji se gredo "Where's Chepiga?". Rusi so pri konspiraciji precej iz vaje oz. so se preveč zanašali na širno Sibirijo in nerazumljivo cirilico.

Teleportov članek je iz l. 2015.

https://twitter.com/leonidragozin/statu...

A reporter for Blagoveshchensk website Teleport 2001 was taken on a tour of DVOKU, Chepiga’s military school.
http://www.teleport2001.ru/news/2015-12...
His guide told him that two of the alumni became Heroes of Russia for the 2014 “events in Crimea”. The story says that for secrecy reasons the names of these two don’t appear on military monuments, including Rokossovsky memorial inside the school, which is inaccessible to the public. Yet the report comes with a photo of the monument with Chepiga’s name already on it.
Third from the bottom on the heroes list, I.V. Maslov sounds like Col.-Lieut. Ivan Vladimirivich Maslov who was posthumously awarded in January 2012, according to this.
https://ria.ru/spravka/20120403/6167657...
Second last in the left column, Sergey Sergeyevich Sheyko even has an English-language Wikipedia page.
Sergey Sheyko @ Wikipedia
So A.V. Popov could be the other Hero of Russia awarded for Crimea, along with Chepiga. There is a actually a Wikipedia page about Popov and it says that he was awarded Hero of Russia in 2014.
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9F%D0...
Here is the list of Heroes of Russia on DVOKU military school website. It says that two of the heroes, awarded for Crimea, are secret. Yet, both Chepiga and Popov are on the list, but - unlike the others - with no description of their heroic deeds.

The official Eastern District Military newspaper reports his award a month after it was issued, quoting proud Gen. Gryzlov, provost of the military academy.

Moskovski dopisniki za BBC in Telegraph so se odpravili v njegovo rojstno vas, 8000 km daleč. Poznajo njega in še posebej njegove starše, oče je ustanovil gradbeno podjetje.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-4...

A BBC team travelled some 5,000 miles east of Moscow to the village of Beryozovka, where Anatoliy Chepiga grew up, close to Russia's border with China.
There, a woman identified a young Anatoliy in the photographs discovered and published by Bellingcat.
She then confirmed that a mugshot released by British police of "Ruslan Boshirov" was also Col Chepiga.
"I know where his parents used to live, that he was a military man. An officer. He fought in war zones, then he was in Moscow," she told the BBC - the first foreign journalists to visit since the Bellingcat report.
Nervous about speaking, she asked to remain anonymous, but said she had seen Col Chepiga as an adult, with his child, and she was sure he and "Boshirov" were one and the same.
She added: "It's him in the photos, of course."
Locals say the family moved out of Beryozovka several years ago.
...
One man who had, and studied with Anatoliy Chepiga at the village school, swore at the BBC team and claimed the allegations were false. He instructed another local not to talk to journalists.
...
An elderly woman, speaking only through her window, was non-committal about the photographs, insisting that images could be doctored. She did not want to give her name but could not believe the "horrible story" about someone she said she had "valued, respected and liked".
That woman confirmed Anatoliy Chepiga was a "Hero of Russia", a title bestowed by the country's president.
...
At the construction company the BBC Russian service believes was founded and run by Col Chepiga's father in the 1990s, staff would not speak to journalists.
When we called a mobile phone number linked to the parents, a man picked up and claimed to be from Uzbekistan. He said he had bought the phone "on the street" three months ago from "a Russian".
The line was then disconnected.

"Alexander, who was in the class above Chepiga, believed his former school mate could have been capable of carrying out such an assassination, however. “They don't take just anyone [in the GRU],” he said. “He could do things others couldn't.”

Čepiga naj bi medaljo "heroj Rusije" dobil za evakuacijo Janukoviča iz Ukrajine. Raziskovalni novinar je slišal od virov, take it for what it's worth.

https://en.hromadske.ua/posts/skripal-p...

“Chepiga (Boshirov) took part in Yanukovych’s evacuation to Russia. At least this is what my sources have evidenced. He and his special forces subdivision were at Yanukovych’s residence Mezhyhirya. He was there, he guarded him. From there they transported him to Crimea and then to Russia,” says Kanev, who was involved in the Bellingcat and The Insider investigation into the Skripal case suspects.

...

According to Kanev, Chepiga was awarded this prestigious title for the evacuation operation. President Putin’s former security guard Alexei Dyumin also received the same award for participating in the same operation, Kanev adds.

“This person was in the Ministry of Defense at that time, but now he is the Governor of the Tula region [of Russia]. Everyone says that Dyumin is Putin’s successor. I also know that this award was given to people who went on to form the backbone of PMC Wagner,” Kanev told Hromadske.

...

Vitaliy Serdiuk, another one of Yanukovych’s lawyers, told Hromadske that he “completely refutes” the GRU’s participation in the evacuation. According to him, when Yanukovych was near Melitopol, in the southeastern Zaporizhia region of Ukraine, his chief security guard Konstiantyn Kobzar called the Russian Federal Protective Service (FSO), and then a helicopter came to get him. The defense lawyer is certain that the FSO organized this operation.

...

Hromadske’s sources in the Prosecutor’s Office say that the investigation did not record any Russians being present at Mezhyhirya at the time. However, on February 22, 2014, when Yanukovych was in Kharkiv, the former president’s security guards were in contact with Russians.

“We have billing information from Russian phones. Six numbers. But it’s unknown whether they were definitely in contact by telephone or physically in contact. This was February 22. By the night of February 23, they were already physically next to Yanukovych in Urzuf, Donetsk region. From there they sent him to Yeisk, in the Krasnodar region of Russia, and from there they escorted him by plane to Anapa, and from Anapa by military transport plane to Hvardiiske in Crimea,” an interlocutor told Hromadske.

Chepiga's bio grows. @MBKhMedia claims after serving in special forces, he was recruited to study operational-tactical recon at the GRU conservatory in 2009 & received the Hero of Russia medal for helping to evacuate Ukrainian president Yanukovych in 2014.
It lists the names of 12 soldiers registered to the same dormitory as Chepiga, probably because they were also studying at the GRU conservatory. Is one of them the real name of Alexander Petrov?

It's open season on Chepiga: Soldiers who served with him tell @novaya_gazeta he's definitely Ruslan Boshirov from the RT interview. They say an influential relative in Khabarovsk got him a command there & that he won Hero of Russia for the Crimea takeover.

In a rare personal comment on the Sergei Skripal scandal, Russian President Vladimir Putin lambasted the former double agent as a “traitor” and “scum.” The sooner the media noise around Skripal ends, the better, Putin said.

Some media outlets are “pushing through a theory that Mr Skripal is some sort of a rights activist. He’s plainly a spy. A traitor to his homeland. There’s such a thing – being a traitor to the homeland. He is one,” Putin said on Wednesday, speaking at the Russian Energy Week International Forum in Moscow.

“Imagine, if there’s a person in your country who betrayed it. How would you treat him?” Putin added. “He’s plainly scum.”

Putin also said the whole Skripal affair had been blown out of proportion, adding that “the faster [the media campaign] ends, the better.”

Have Russian hitmen been killing with impunity in Turkey?

...

Approximately six months earlier, on 1 November 2015, another Chechen, Abdulwahid Edelgiriev, was about to take his niece shopping in the Istanbul suburb of Keyesehir.

As he set off for the mall another car blocked his path. A man then leaped out and shot through the window of Edelgiriev's car, but missed.

Edelgiriev ran down a path back towards his home, pursued by the attackers. They felled him with a shot, and then stabbed him in the neck, leaving him to bleed to death.

Edelgiriev had been one of those Chechens who continued to fight for an independent, and Islamic, Chechnya, even after most Chechen rebel units had been destroyed, or turned and recruited by the notoriously brutal Kadyrov.

He remained holed up in the mountains until 2008 when he stepped on a trip wire, triggering an explosion that left his foot badly wounded. Then, after treatment in Turkey, he joined thousands of other Islamist militants from the former USSR in Syria, allying himself with the local affiliate of al-Qaeda, Jabhat al-Nusra.

While many died in Syria, Edelgiriev returned to Turkey and is known to have been part of a group that had plotted to resume jihad on Russian territory.

It would be in Russia's interests for such men to be eliminated, but there is another reason why Russia might wish to see the end of Edelgiriev, as he was suspected in Moscow of having played a key role in a plot to kill Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Druga zgodba iz istega članka. Tako jih skrbi (neo)nacizem, vse dokler ga ne uporabijo za svoje interese.

Few of the killings in Turkey have been satisfactorily solved, but leaked Turkish police documents obtained by the BBC show that one triple assassination in September 2011 left many clues.

The victims were Chechen militants accused of the bloody bombing of Moscow's Domodedovo airport earlier that year - an attack in which 37 people died and 170 were injured. All three died on the spot in the Istanbul district of Zeytinburnu.

But while the killing itself may have been carried out professionally, the five hitmen left a wealth of information in a hired car, including their names and photos, and a USB stick illustrating their lifestyle, from the predictable - fast cars, male friendship and whisky - to the bizarre… a motorbike decorated with Nazi insignia.

All of the men came from Russia.

The first time they hired a car, they asked for a white, or light-coloured one. It had to be automatic, and they insisted that it should not have GPS. But in fact it turned out that the car did have a built-in navigation system, and the hitmen failed to disable it. As a result, police were later able to establish exactly where they had been during the preceding two weeks - and to find plenty of CCTV footage of their activities.

...

In Moscow, I tracked down people who knew one of the killers - Nadim Ayupov, the owner of the USB stick, who was photographed with the motorbike bearing Nazi insignia. They said he was no secret agent, but a member of a Moscow crime gang specialising in car theft.

Since the 1990s there has been "an interpenetration of organised crime and the security services," according to Prof Mark Galeotti.

"We have cases of hitmen being trained by spetsnaz special forces," he says. "We have cases of gangs being set up - criminal gangs being set up by former state security, KGB and then FSB, officers."

On 13 April, Dutch military intelligence disrupted a GRU operation against OPCW at the Hague. 4 Russian GRU officers were identified in a hacking operation.

...further evidence found found that the laptop of one of the GRU officers was also used in hacking operations in Brazili, and Malaysia - in connection with MH17!!!

arrived April 10 on diplomatic passports.
These were the four undercover GRU officers
The numbers of the passports as you may have noticed, were sequential :) :)

On April 13 they parked their rented Citroen as close as possible to the OPCW building with back toward it. From the parking of the Marriott hotel, they tried to disrupt the OPCW network which was at that time working on the Skripal and the Dhouma analysis.
One of the phones was identified to have been activated for the first time in Moscow near GRU's office..on 9th April
One of them had a taxi receipt...from the day of the trip to NL...travelling from the GRU high-tech HQ (where hacking on the DNC server was conducted),...to Sheremetievo airport
At least one of them also traveled to Switzerland during the WADA congress

"One of the GRU officers , Evgeniy Serbryakov, also conducted malign activity in Malaysia...targeted Chief Prosecutor's office and Police..."

The Dutch prevented the group from travelling to Spietz in Switzerland...However, that was not the first time they went there. During the APT-28 malware attack on WADA in 2016, one of the laptops of the 4 was registered to the hotel network where WADA congress was held.

In March, right after Salisbury, GRU tried to infiltrate UK police via spear-phishing. In April, GRU attacked remotely computers of UK dealing with the poison analysis , and in May, attacked OPCW employees via spear-rphishing.

Malo prehitevajo.

Drugi atentator je dr. Aleksander Miškin, vojaški zdravnik.

https://www.bellingcat.com/news/uk-and-...

We have now identified “Alexander Petrov” to be in fact Dr. Alexander Yevgenyevich Mishkin, a trained military doctor in the employ of the GRU. Bellingcat’s identification process included multiple open sources, testimony from people familiar with the person, as well as copies of personally identifying documents, including a scanned copy of his passport. The full identification process will be described in the upcoming full report.

...

Alexander Mishkin was born on 13.07.1979 in the village of Loyga, in the Archangelsk District in Northern European Russia. He studied and graduated from one of Russia’s elite Military Medical Academies, and was trained as a military doctor for the Russian naval armed forces.

During his medical studies, Mishkin was recruited by the GRU, and by 2010 had relocated to Moscow, where he received his undercover identity – including a second national ID and travel passport – under the alias Alexander Petrov.

In the period 2011-2018, Alexander Mishkin traveled extensively under his new identity. Bellingcat has identified multiple trips to Ukraine and to the self-declared Transnistrian Republic, the last of which as late as during the Maidan events in Kyiv in December 2013.

...

Until early September 2014, Mishkin’s registered home address in Moscow was Khoroshevskoe Shosse 76B – the address of the headquarters of the GRU. In the autumn of 2014, both Mishkin and Anatoliy Chepiga moved to upscale apartments.

...

Bellingcat and the Insider have interviewed multiple sources familiar with Mishkin, both in St. Petersburg and in his native Loyga.

In the full report, which will be published on Tuesday at 13:00, we will publish the full method by which Mishkin was identified, as well as witness testimony from various sources. The full report will also contain forensic evidence of the visual (facial) match between “Alexander Mishkin” and “Alexander Petrov”

Aha, miškinova babica ima menda njegov portret s Putinom. Od takrat, ko je prejel naziv heroj RF.

https://www.bellingcat.com/news/uk-and-...

...

Alexander Mishkin lived in his home village until at least 1995 when he was sixteen. For a large part of his school years, Mishkin lived with his grandmother, Loyga’s only medical practitioner at the time.

...

In the latter part of 2014, President Putin bestowed Alexander Mishkin with the Hero of the Russian Federation Award. People closely familiar with Mishkin’s family reported to us that they believe Russia’s highest award was given for Mishkin’s activities “either in Crimea or in relation to [former Ukrainian president] Yanukovich”

...

In the autumn of 2014, at the time both Mishkin and Chepiga received their Hero of Russia Awards, both moved to upscale apartments valued at between €350,000 and €500,000 at the exchange rates that existed then. Bellingcat believes that these apartments were in-kind remuneration that accompanied the highest state award.

...

Looking for clues as to the geographical focus for the search, we noted that in the “cover” passport file, there was a reference to a previous passport – issued in St. Petersburg in 1999.

Searching through dozens of previously leaked databases, we did not find such passport issue number, leading the team to conclude the number was fake.

...

Focusing on St. Petersburg, we searched through various leaked databases of residents, vehicle owners and telephone subscribers

...

This search resulted in only one exact match in St. Petersburg databases from 2003 and 2006: Alexander Yevgeniyevich Mishkin, born on 13 July 1979. This name with the same address, Akademika Lebedeva street 12, apartment 30, are mentioned in an open source database as well.

Bellingcat then used the telephone number (which is no longer in service) listed in the database as search criteria, to find other St. Petersburg residents that were linked to it. At least eight residents were registered to have used this same phone number, in the 2003 and 2006 databases. This finding suggested that these living quarters may have been a communal apartment (komunalnaya kvartira), or living space shared by multiple unrelated residents.

A review of the map of St. Petersburg placed the address directly across the part of the campus buildings of the St. Petersburg Military Medical Academy, or VMEDA.

...

Using the open-source online database of residents of St. Petersburg, Bellingcat identified more than 30 persons who had inhabited different apartments in the house at “Akademika Lebedeva 12.” A search for these people’s online presence showed that many of them list VMEDA as their alma mater

...

On the assumption that the real person behind “Alexander Petrov” lives and works in Moscow (as suggested by the Moscow registration of the cover passport file), Bellingcat then searched for presence of a person with the name Alexander Yevgenyevich Mishkin in Moscow. The first open-source result was from a Moscow online phone database.

Using this phone number and name, we searched in various leaked Moscow databases and found a match in a car insurance database from 2013.
However, at this point it was not unequivocal that this Moscow-based person having the same full name and driving a Volvo XC90 was the same person as the St. Petersburg namesake. To verify this, Bellingcat acquired the registration history of this vehicle from an official Russian database. The car history showed that it had been imported – and initially registered – in St. Petersburg in 2012, and on 11 September 2013 had been transferred to an individual residing in the Khoroshevsky District in Moscow.

As the GRU headquarters is located at Khoroshevsko Shosse 76B, in this same district, this finding increased the probability that Alexander Mishkin from St. Petersburg is indeed “Alexander Petrov”.

To eliminate these uncertainties, we obtained a more recent auto insurance database from 2014, available for purchase from a Russian website. A search for the registered owner of the Volvo XC90 eliminated any doubt that Alexander Mishkin is linked to the GRU, as the address listed for the owner was GRU’s headquarters, at Khoroshevskoe Shosse 76B.

...

Via Russian social networks, Bellingcat mass-contacted hundreds of VMEDA graduates from the 2001-2007 class range. We did not inform the persons contacted about the context of the query, nor mentioned Petrov. Many of the contacted persons responded by saying they are not familiar with an Alexander Mishkin in their class. Most other did not respond to our queries. One person who requested complete anonymity, confirmed to Bellingcat that Alexander Mishkin indeed graduated the academy in a different class than his or hers, and that this person had recognized Mishkin as “Alexander Petrov” from the RT interview. This same person informed us that many of the graduates from Mishkin’s class and department had been contacted by Russian security services over the last few weeks, and instructed not to divulge Mishkin’s identity to anyone.

Having established Petrov’s true identity in late September, we focused all efforts on obtaining a photograph of Alexander Mishkin. As reported by Russian media, following Bellingcat’s initial reports on the Skripal suspects, the Russian domestic security agency FSB clamped down on sources that they perceived might be leaking data from Russia’s passport dossier databases. As a result, requesting any source to provide the investigating team with access to Mishkin’s passport file was not an option, as it would place such source in danger.

Instead, we were able to obtain a copy of Alexander Mishkin’s scanned passport pages, from a source with access to a scanned copy of the passport. The source requested complete anonymity due to safety concerns, and thus Bellingcat cannot share the type of position or history the source has that has enabled him/her to have access to this document.
The source also provided Bellingcat with a second document in the name of Alexander Mishkin containing a (different) photograph of a person with a strong facial resemblance of “Petrov”.

...

For final validation of our amassed findings, Bellingcat’s Russian investigative partner, The Insider, sent a reporter to the village of Loyga. The reporter was able to meet and talk to many residents, who all recognized “Alexander Petrov”, the person shown on photographs released by the British police and seen in the RT interview, as “our local boy” Alexander Mishkin.

...

One source close to Mishkin’s grandmother (who is now in her 90’s, and as a former doctor is still revered in the village) told us that the reason for the award is top secret, but that the understanding in the village was that it was “for Crimea or Yanukovich”.

The same source told us that Alexander Mishkin’s grandmother possesses a photograph on which President Putin is bestowing the Gold Star medal (which goes with the award) to Alexander, and shakes his hand. The source said the grandmother treasures this photo and does not show it to everyone, and never lets anyone else hold it. Our reporter was not able to talk directly to Petrov’s grandmother or see the photograph.

A few days ago we published a photo of a driver’s license beloning to Anatoliy Vladimirovich Chepiga (the Skripal poisioning suspect under alias of "Ruslan Boshirov"), which an anonymous source sent to us via email. Using the full driver’s license data, we verified that it was, in fact, valid
Our readers used an online OSAGO vehicle insurance database and the driver’s license data to find out that the driver’s license was really registered to Anatoliy Vladimirovich Chepiga.

The same database revealed that during 2016-2017 Chepiga had an OSAGO insurance policy for a vehicle with state registration number Т 705 ТТ 99 and VIN code X4XKS494000H01806. A Yandex search quickly yielded a publicly available photograph of a BMW X5 with this number plate
There is a variety of online services that allow to use partial information on a vehicle to find out its more or less full history. Among them are Avtokod, Avtoteka, Telegram bot AvinfoBot and others. (...) It turned out that from June 2017, a BMW X5 with this VIN code belonged to Darya Torbenko (Emelyanova). The car’s ex-owner Chepiga kept the T 705 TT 99 number

Knowing that Chepiga kept the Т 705 ТТ 99 number, we used the same services to check if he had bought a new car. Searching the car’s registration number at Avtoteka, we found out that currently this number belongs to a 2017 Mercedes GL-Klasse, VIN code WDC1668241A988448:
Using the vehicle’s VIN code for the Avtokod website search, we found more information on the car, in particular a list of traffic violation fines with fine ruling numbers
What does a fine ruling number give us? We can search those numbers in a fine check service at Avtokod.mos.ru to see photographs of the traffic violation and, crucially, the first name and patronymic of the violating driver:
Well, this is weird. We know that the number Т 705 ТТ 99 belongs to Anatoliy Vladimirovich Chepiga. However, the violating driver for both is a certain Aleksandr Evgenyevich [Александр Евгеньевич], which is, incidentally, the same name and patronymic as given in the fake passport of Chepiga’s presumed colleague «Aleksandr Evgenyevich Petrov». How do we find information on this Aleksandr Evgenyevich? Last year, Russian media reported on a massive insurance company data leak. Reportedly, among the leaked info was not only text data, bit document photos as well.

All we had to do then is find those databases in the so-called «Dark Web» and find the information on "Aleksandr Evgenyevich". This way, we found out, that the current owner of the car is Aleksandr Evgenyevich Mishkin. The same database yielded a photo of Mishkin’s driver’s license and other personal documents:
The same database yielded infromation from the Mercedes-Benz GLS 350 D 4MATIC vehicle passport. According to it, since September 5 2017 the car belonged to… Anatoliy Vladimirovich Chepiga, registered at Grimau street in Moscow. On May 30 2018, Chepiga sold the car to Aleksandr Evgenyevich Mishkin, who is also registered in Moscow, at Perekopskaya street.

In the mostly isolated village of Loyga, Mishkin's old neighbors tell @tvrain that Mishkin was involved in the Crimean annexation somehow (they're unclear as to the how) and that they know this from his relatives
And here is the Loyga school. @tvrain's correspondent reports that school children appear to have been warned to avoid speaking to the press. Hm. We wonder why.
There are some new signs on the door of the local kindergarten. One reads: "Photos and video recording prohibited." We're guessing this one is *not* directed at proud parents coming to record fun kindergarten events.
Friends of the family are convinced that Mishkin is a "good guy" who couldn't have been involved in what happened in Salisbury. Assume it's a provocation of some kind. This gentleman's wife threatened to call the police on the press. Yikes. This same gentleman, in passing, also admits to have knowledge that Mishkin is a Hero of Russia. He's a local artist. We hope his wife forgave him for talking to the press.
"I'm 100% certain that this is Sasha [a Russian diminutive for Alexander]. I remember him from school," says an old classmate, meanwhile. "There were, of course, rumors that [Mishkin] was FSB or in one of those [other security service] structures," Mishkin's old classmate says.
The house of Mishkin's parents in the village of Lomovatka, as pointed out to @tvrain by neighbors. The residents left "a couple of weeks ago," while "in a hurry." No one knows where they went, or why. Another mystery

We have a very difficult geolocation challenge for our readers, to assist us in an ongoing investigation. We think that this image could have been taken in Switzerland, Germany, or Denmark. Can anyone find out which factory / church is in the background of this photograph?
Caveat: this photograph also could be in Greece, Bulgaria, or Georgia, but we cannot tell if the cross on the steeple is Orthodox or not. If this is indeed an Orthodox cross (resolution is low, sadly), then it obviously is not likely to be in the Germany, Switzerland, or Denmark.

And our winner, 55 minutes after our initial call for help, is @adam_pawson! Looks like a match with the power plant in the background -- Zeran, north of Warsaw. Hopefully we'll be able to publish our investigation involving this photograph in 2018.
More precisely, this is approximately where it was taken (Taras Widokowy / observation deck) from, with Old Town Warsaw in the background

The third man, a 45-year-old Russian travelling under the alias Sergey Vyacheslavovich Fedotov, has been conclusively identified by Bellingcat as a senior GRU officer. Like the other two Skripal suspects, GRU officers Anatoliy Chepiga and Alexander Mishkin, his cover identity was created in 2010, with no prior records of a person with this name ever existing.

...

Bellingcat and its investigative partner The Insider (Russia) have traced Fedotov’s prodigious travel itinerary since his cover identity was created in 2010 until his last overseas trip to London in March 2018. Over these eight years, “Fedotov” traveled extensively in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, often appearing in hot spots just days before news-making events.

...

On April 24, 2015, “Sergey Fedotov” arrived on a flight from Moscow to the Bulgarian seaside resort of Burgas. He had a return flight for a week later, on April 30, from the capital city of Sofia back to Moscow. However, he did not show up for the return flight. Instead, late on the evening of April 28th, he showed up at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport and bought a last-minute ticket to a flight to Moscow.

Earlier that day, a Bulgarian entrepreneur, Emilian Gebrev, was hospitalized after collapsing at a reception he was hosting in Sofia. At around the same time, his adult son and one of the executives at his company fell suddenly ill. All three were hospitalized with symptoms of severe poisoning.

...

As first reported by Bulgarian weekly Capital, Emilian Gebrev then requested assistance in identifying the poison from two leading laboratories specializing in control of chemical weapons. One of them, Verifin at the University of Helsinki, undertook a thorough analysis. The lab was unable to identify the poison conclusively, but discovered traces of two different organophosphates in Mr. Gebrev’s urine sample: One of these they managed to identify as a strong pesticide, while the other remained unidentifiable with the standard testing tools for chemical weapons.

A month after initially being admitted to hospital, Emilian Gebrev’s status improved substantially and he was released. He told Bellingcat that several days later, in late May, he felt ill once again and was re-admitted to hospital.

Notably, on May 24, 2015 “Sergey Fedotov” had returned to Bulgaria on a direct flight from Moscow.
He had booked a return flight on May 28, 2015, however he, once again, did not show up for that flight. Two days later, on May 30, he took a flight from neighboring Serbia to Moscow.

...

Mr. Gebrev conceded that there may have been two hypothetical reasons why he might have been targeted. One was his company’s exports of specialized defense-related equipment to Ukraine, which he said he conducted in strict compliance with Bulgarian and European regulations. Another hypothesis, he conceded, was possible interest by Russia in a weapons manufacturing plant he controlled that was seen as strategic importance to Bulgaria and NATO.

Bellingcat first reported in September 2018 that this passport desk, known as Central Migration Office Unit 770-001 (“Unit 770001”), is routinely used to issue domestic passports to GRU undercover officers, such as the Salisbury poisoning suspects and two unrelated GRU undercover officers indicted by Montenegro over the alleged 2016 coup attempt in that country. Bellingcat and other organizations later established that this passport desk also issued Russian passports to a handful of foreign VIPs freshly bestowed with Russian citizenship, people such as French actor Gerard Depardieu.
...

The SBU’s allegations could be substantially confirmed via indirect means. We started by taking a random sample of names from the first and second SBU list, which included both international and domestic passport numbers of alleged PMC mercenaries.

As part of our investigation into the Salisbury poisoning suspects, we had acquired a copy of a leaked database of domestic air travel bookings in Russia dating from 2014 to 2016. This database, which can be acquired from a number of torrent sites and database vendors in Russia, has proven to be accurate but not comprehensive, as it does not necessarily include all air-travel in this period.

...

Out of eleven attempts, we were successful in finding seven of the names from the SBU’s list in the domestic air-travel data. Of these, three were matched by (domestic) passport numbers, and four by full name and birth date.

A startling observation from the resulting dataset was one destination that overlapped in all of the domestic air-travel records for the seven individuals involved. All seven had a very limited air-travel history, but each had taken at least one flight with the destination being Pashkovsy airport.

Pashkovsky is the main airport serving Russia’s southern city of Krasnodar. Notably, PMC Wagner’s main training camp is based at the village of Molkino, as reported by Russian investigative media. Molkino is approximately a 30-minute drive from Pashkovsky.

...

As Russians traveling on domestic flights typically use their internal passports, rather than their international travel passports, we could not directly verify the SBU’s claim that the listed mercenaries were issued international passport numbers from the 770001 Unit in Moscow.

However, this allegation was indirectly confirmed when we checked if any travelers having international passports from the same number series as those on the SBU lists had made domestic trips using such documents. Indeed, we identified two such travelers. Notably, they had both travelled (only) between St. Petersburg and Pashkovsky on such passports.

...

Our finding indirectly validates the SBU’s allegation that the names identified at the press conference belong to PMC Wagner staff, and that at least some people among PMC Wagner operatives have passports from the same office that issued GRU undercover identity papers.

Firstly, thanks to all of our regional partners who assisted this investigation, which included folks in Russia (@the_ins_ru), Czechia (Respekt), Finland (Helsingin Sanomat), and Bulgaria (http://Capital.bg ).
Online digging can find a lot, but their work made this possible.

We've identified the GRU officer "Sergey Vyachaeslavovich Fedotov" as Denis Vyacheslavovich Sergeev.
Both of these identities have the birthdate of 17 September 1973, matching a pattern seen with other GRU cover identities.

We've been monitoring a number of open Russian databases for changes related to the birth identities of the three Skripal suspects -- Chepiga, Mishkin, and Sergeev.
Russian authorities have tried to erase all of their tracks in the last few months. More on this next week!

Sergeev, the real identity third Skripal suspect, was born in Kazakhstan and later served in the army and attended the elite Military Diplomatic Academy (the "GRU Conservatory").
He lives in Moscow where his wife and adult daughter also reside. He has a very strange financial history -- he set up a series of bizarre sham corporations in Russia between 2007-12.
All looked like the names of real, larger corporations, but they did little actual business. He shared these sham corporations with other GRU officers.
We suspect that these sham corporations were used either for money laundering or for being front companies to serve as employment for other shady people -- hence why their names are similar to that of real, larger corporations. You can see his records here
https://zachestnyibiznes.ru/fl/23150627...

In 2009, Sergeev got a personal loan from a Russian bank (info from a leaked Russian credit history database, available on open torrents online) of $1,066,192.
U.S. dollars, not rubles. He got this $1mil+ loan despite the fact that he has no real estate or vehicle.
In this loan, he lists his employment as "Loreven Style LTD".
In a 2010 census, Sergeev said that this company is based in Riga; however, there are no records of it existing anywhere, in Riga or any other place.
The phone numbers listed for it aren't in service. Hm!

So this alone is an interesting finding -- a GRU officer was setting up sham companies, getting a gigantic loan from a Russian bank, and listing a sham employer.
Who else is doing this? Opening for any intrepid journalists/researchers to dig into -- we can't do it alone!

In 2010, 37-year-old "Sergey Vyachaeslavovich Fedotov" was born in the Ryazan oblast of Russia.
Sergeev received the internal passport for his alter ego of Fedotov from the same passport desk in Moscow that issued passports for the cover identities of the other Skripal suspects, along with other VIPs.
Just as with the passports of the cover identities of the two Skripal poisoners, Fedotov was given his fresh internal passport because his "old" one (which doesn't exist) was listed as "unsuitable for use".
Thus, he was born in Russian bureaucracy as a 37-year-old man.

Just as with the cover identities of other GRU officers, the residential address of "Fedotov" was the same as a random family in Moscow that happened to have the same last name.
He didn't actually live here.
With the help of our investigative partners, we were able to analyze a series of online booking/travel databases, showing us where Fedotov went after he was born.
From 2012-8, here are the trips he took (that we are aware of).
One of the most notable trips is his January 2014 trip to Prague. Alexander Mishkin, one of the Skripal poisoners, was there at the same time.
The two stayed together at the Best Western Meteor Plaza Hotel in Prague for eight days (our regional partner Respekt established this).

There are some other trips that could be interesting, or could be a total coincidence:
"Fedotov" was in the UK when the Brexit vote was taking place, and in Barcelona during the Catalonian referendum.
Again, we don't know if there is significance to this or mere coincidence.

Which leads us to Bulgaria.
"Fedotov" flew to Bulgaria right before arms dealer Emilian Gebrev was apparently poisoned, and flew back right after.
His travel pattern here is unusual, but also typical.

During the Skripal poisoning, Fedotov/Sergeev flew into London on 2 March 2018 (same day as Mishkin/Chepiga).
His return flight was set for March 4, but he didn't get on that plane despite checking in.
Instead, he (somehow) got to Rome, then flew back to Moscow from there.

Fedotov/Sergeev flew into Bulgaria on 24 April 2015, and had a return ticket to Moscow from Sofia for April 30th.
Instead, he flew from Sofia to Istanbul on April 28th, where he bought a ticket to take him to Moscow that same night.
This guy REALLY hates taking return flights.

Next week, we will publish a more detailed report on how we established that Sergeev is the true identity of Fedotov,
along with information on how Russia is scrubbing all remaining traces of the identities of Chepiga, Mishkin, and Sergeev from their online databases.
Stay tuned!

When I discovered GRU undercover officer Denis Sergeev listed "Richard Sorge Street"as his home address on an insurance application, I thought he was trolling. I thought, great sense of self-irony.
I just discovered that WAS his real address.

Richard Sorge @ Wikipedia

Richard Sorge (October 4, 1895 – November 7, 1944) was a German journalist and Soviet military intelligence officer, active before and during World War II, working undercover as a German journalist in both Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan. His codename was "Ramsay" (Russian: Рамза́й). A number of famous personalities considered him one of the most accomplished spies.

Sorge is most famous for his service in Japan in 1940 and 1941, when he provided information about Adolf Hitler's plan to attack the Soviet Union.

In mid-September 1941, he informed the Soviets that Japan would not attack the Soviet Union in the near future, which dramatically altered the plight of Operation Barbarossa and allowed the command to transfer 18 divisions, 1,700 tanks, and over 1,500 aircraft from Siberia and the Far East to the Western Front against Nazi Germany during the most critical months of the Battle for Moscow, one of the turning points of World War II.

A month later Sorge was arrested in Japan on the counts of espionage. He was tortured, forced to confess, tried, and hanged in November 1944. He was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1964.

...

In 1941, through his Embassy contacts, he learned of Operation Barbarossa, the imminent Axis invasion of the USSR, and even the approximate date. On May 30, 1941, Sorge reported to Moscow: "Berlin informed Ott that German attack will commence in the latter part of June. Ott 95 percent certain war will commence."[9] On June 20, 1941, Sorge reported: "Ott told me that war between Germany and the USSR is inevitable.... Invest [the code name for Ozaki] told me that the Japanese General Staff is already discussing what position to take in the event of war."[9] Moscow received the reports, but ultimately Joseph Stalin and other top leaders ignored Sorge's warnings, as well as those of other sources.[34]
