Hynix employees to strike against Micron deal

Hynix employees to strike against Micron deal

_Mortal_ ::

THE MEMO OF MISUNDERSTANDING that Micron and Hynix recently signed is expected to be ratified by April 30th.
But that comes one day before May Day, and as SuperTrot Hamish McGrumpy knows, that's the day when the Red Flag is unfurled and the anarchists are all shot. "And good riddance too to those mad basketcases who would prevent us SuperTrots from feathering our own nests," is the kind of thing McGrumpy might say.

Steve Appleton at Micron, however, is likely to go a brighter shade of incandescent at the reports.

It now emerges that as we suggested earlier, Hynix employees will take "indefinite" strike action against the firm the minute the memo of misunderstanding is signed, backed by the powerful Federation of Korean Trade Unions in the peninsula.

The head of the union, Jeong Sang-young, is quoted as saying that Hynix can survive without Steve Appleton at Micron's help, and that it and the umbrella union organisation will fight against the South Korean government, their own company, and the banks that are pushing for the deal to go ahead.

He added that he and other Hynix employees don't want to work for Micron.

As many as 9000 employees may walk out immediately, causing a premature shuttering of Hynix fabs.

That should certainly put the price of memory up in the short term. µ
