Visionect is currently looking for a senior systems engineer with experience with Linux systems and who will help the team to scale using modern DevOps/SRE practices.
You will help us deploy, manage and monitor internal systems and external services infrastructure. You will help us upgrade and migrate our existing systems to a more container centric approach as well as build the next generation of services which will be key for future growth.

We're a very pragmatic and frugal company, and we've always used a mix of bare metal, virtualized, cloud-based (IaaS) and on-premises servers, running everything from web pages, various web apps (Python, Golang) to our Visionect Server, a custom thin-client server and a key ingredient in our electronic paper platform.

Last year we've started a comprehensive migration towards containers and we run 99% of services through Docker and Kubernetes. Our cloud provider of choice is Google, but we're looking to build solutions vendor agnostic.

We've been influenced heavily by Google's way of running production systems and we're trying to follow the practices explained in Site Reliability Engineering - https://landing.google.com/sre/book.html - to the extent possible at our current scale.

This is not a "GUI administrator" position - you'll be working as an engineer expected to help develop various services and systems that will simplify operations for the rest of the team.

Finally - we focus on our own products and do not do project work for our customers so most of the time you'll be working with our development teams helping them with Visionect's existing and future products. Visionect is currently world-wide leader in epaper & digital signage solutions and you'll help us retain this position.

Your tasks include:

- Daily operations: Deploying, management and monitoring of servers and services.
- Improving internal processes: Adding automation wherever sensible, making sure we're not wasting time on mindless drone tasks while at the same time improving QA.
- Support to developers: Working with developers and providing them with support during development as well as guidance on how to improve (aka "SRE embed").
- Architectural work: we're building the next generation of our infrastructure and your input will be needed to help us decide what direction should we go.

Od kandidatov zahtevamo

Required skills:

- Expert knowledge of Linux/*nix system administration
- Programing experience
- Experience with modern DevOps practices (server orchestration, configuration management, automated deploys, monitoring, ... )
- Experience with containers (Docker, rkt,...)
- Experience with IaaS providers (you've deployed services on AWS, Azure or similar)
- Experience with good security practices

Big plus:

- Good programming skills (especially if you're versed in Python or Go Lang)
- Proper infrastructure experience - you've deployed a global service with more than just a handful of users in production
- Network communication security on the level of networking protocols - you would know how to protect a custom networking protocol running on top of TCP/IP against various attacks
- Kubernetes experience - especially if you've run K8S in production
- Google Cloud Platform experience

Position is a senior position - you'll be working directly with the CTO and other team leads. You'll have an opportunity to lead the whole systems engineering team if you'll perform.
